The physiologically harmless magnesium is the most ignoble metal used in the electrochemical series and is, therefore, ideally suited as a so-called sacrificial anode.
A magnesium chain anode protects a water tank against corrosion and improves the water quality. The steel-made storage tank wall and the magnesium anode form a galvanic element.
In enamelled steel tanks, the current flows from the magnesium anode to the defective areas of the tank. While the magnesium is gradually dissolving due to current output and internal corrosion, a potential reduction takes place at the defective areas preventing the corrosion of steel.
Anodes can be cut as required!
